"When you're young, you can fly, but we trip on clouds 'cause we get too high" -The Band Perry (Song: Don't Let Me Be Lonely)
"Cause no matter what, you'll never be alone" -Lady Antebellum (Song: Compass)

The judgment surrounded me
while I listened to the snickers
of a million angry men
as they tore at my self-esteem
and tried to pull me under
towards the dark curse of guilt

And at first I may have given in
to their harsh punishment
as I stood upon that scaffold,
but now I have matured
into a body of pure strength
that has forgiven my own sin

And that's all that truly matters.

The author's comments:

This poem is written from the perspective of Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter as she stands on the scaffold and gets publically humilated. However, the ending represents how she grew to realize that she was a strong independent woman.
