"Poetry and art are when you take decades of thought and condense it into a nifty little portable carrying case that people can see and go 'Oooh, Ahh'... and then forget about it. But what does it matter, so long as YOU remember it?" ~ Bela

This picture has an unfortunate story behind it. I met a man in the Hard Bean Cafe, which at the time was less than a block from where I lived. I'd seen this man, Bob, several times, he was a regular at the Bean, and I spent most afternoons there as well. There came a timewhen the manager was gracious enough to allow me to display my artwork on the walls of the shop, for sale, and agreed to take no cut from any profits I made. I think he felt that I brought customers in more because I often worked while in the Bean, and people off the street would come in out of curiosity, and then end up buying coffee. Anyway, Bob approached me and asked me to draw this piece. I made 5 attempts at this piece, taking literally months, due to a series of problems. I tried it three times, and couldn't make it look right. Finally, I ended up mimicking an older painting done, I changed it up a little bit and did it in charcoal. I finally finished the piece you see here after working all night on the tile floor of my kitchen. My knees hurt terribly, and I had the coffee pot working overtime. Later that week, I took it with me to an airport, got distracted on my laptop, and it was stolen from under my feet. Unfortunately, this piece was never found, so this is the only image I have of it. I later recreated it, slightly differently, but in the same medium. And then... I never could seem to get ahold of Bob. In the end, months have passed, I left messages and waited, and still no response, so all I have are his $100 deposit, and the piece itself. I would have thought if you paid half the price for something in advance, you'd be more likely to pick it up. Anyway, the Newer version of the same image is titled "St.Frances of Assisi (II)". look it up if you like.
