In Freudian theory, the ego is the part of our psyche that considers the surroundings and takes into account the desires of others. The development of the ego calls for the departure of childish selfishness and innocence, which is represented by the bubbles that are leaving the woman's incomplete head. The raven is indicative of the ego because the raven tends to symbolize knowledge in literature. In addition, birds have an aerial perspective in life that can be likened to the awareness of the ego. The ego's job is to appease the id and the superego while considering the situation and the surroundings. It can be though of as a peacemaker between the id and the superego's contradicting motives.
