The Camera
“Turn on the camera.”
I swallowed. The computer screen before me showed my inbox. He was doing it again. Every night, the same words greeted me. Constant demands to turn on the webcam. He told me he’d hurt me if I didn’t. I closed my eyes, my fingers lingering over the keys. The intake of breath filled my air with lungs, yet I felt as though I was packed in an airtight box with no escape.
I turned on the camera.
