Recovery
The past haunts her,
Never letting her forget.
The pain never leaves,
Nor does it lessen.
She just grows
More and more
Accustomed to it.
She shields herself
From further pain,
Closing herself off
And silencing her
Beautiful mind.
But one person
Can make a difference
If they try,
And she is lucky enough
To find someone
Willing to help.
Every day brings
One more smile,
One more fit of laughter,
One more day of feeling okay,
One more day of feeling wanted.
She starts becoming
Herself again,
But the memory
Never leaves.
She's still cautious,
Perhaps even paranoid,
Because once you've been hurt,
You know that anyone
Can become your next attacker.
The past haunts her,
Never letting her forget.
The pain never leaves,
Nor does it lessen.
But every day, she
Picks herself up
And tells herself
That's she worth it
And that she's strong enough
To make it through whatever
Is thrown her way.
