Why It Should Be Illegal to Not Vaccinate Your Children
Vaccinations are something that has saved many people’s lives and has even eradicated some diseases like Smallpox. However, some people decide to not vaccinate their children and because of this, they are putting not only their kids but the kids of other people in danger of contracting these diseases. it should be required by law to vaccinate your children. When you choose not to vaccinate your children you put your child and the children of those who have received the vaccine at risk to contract the disease. “The U.S. experienced a record 667 measles cases from 27 states in 2014 that included a multi-state outbreak traced to Disneyland — the greatest number of cases since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared the disease eradicated in 2000”. (Michigan Health) on another hand, vaccines have proven to reduce deaths caused by diseases that can be vaccinated against. One statistic shows that the use of vaccines after the 1960s only around 89,780 people die from measles compared to before vaccines were used there was 500 to 500,000 deaths caused by measles each year (VAXOPEDIA) These numbers show that once vaccines started to be used the death rate of people from measles was drastically lowered.
Some people say that what is contained in vaccines causes harm to those who receive them but contained in vaccines is Aluminum which while yes it can be harmful to ingest, the amount used in vaccines is less than the amount that you intake on a daily basis. It isn't about what is in the vaccine or what you intake it is all about the dose that you receive even things like water can be toxic if you ingest enough of it. The doctors that test the vaccines ensure that the dose given to the public is completely safe A list of what is contained in some vaccines.
Aluminum gels or salts of aluminum which are added as adjuvants to help the vaccine stimulate a better response. Adjuvants help promote an earlier, more potent response, and more persistent immune response to the vaccine.
Antibiotics which are added to some vaccines to prevent the growth of germs (bacteria) during production and storage of the vaccine. No vaccine produced in the United States contains penicillin.
Egg protein is found in yellow fever and most influenza vaccines, which are prepared using chicken eggs. Ordinarily, persons who are able to eat eggs or egg products safely can receive these vaccines.
Formaldehyde is used to inactivate bacterial products for toxoid vaccines, (these are vaccines that use an inactive bacterial toxin to produce immunity.) It is also used to kill unwanted viruses and bacteria that might contaminate the vaccine during production. Most formaldehyde is removed from the vaccine before it is packaged.
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and 2-phenoxyethanol which are used as stabilizers in a few vaccines to help the vaccine remain unchanged when the vaccine is exposed to heat, light, acidity, or humidity.
Thimerosal is a mercury-containing preservative that is added to vials of vaccine that contain more than one dose to prevent contamination and growth of potentially harmful bacteria. (CDC)
While there are still some risks that go along with using vaccines what they do to prevent outbreaks of diseases that can kill hundreds of people outweighs the risks of receiving vaccines. People who cannot be vaccinated survive based on a theory called Herd Immunity, where a person who cannot be vaccinated surrounds themselves with those who are. This helps those who are unable to get the vaccine to have a much lower chance of getting the disease because of the few people that can contract it. Making a law that requires parents to vaccinate their children will be a big step in eradicating diseases as we did with smallpox.
