Absolute Value
"Absolute Value" by Jordyn Jones transforms a mathematical concept into a temporary lifestyle. In the sixth grade, Jordyn leaned the idea of absolute value, which in mathematical terms, was where a number was always changed to positive. He related this to his real life, and incorporated this concept into his life by trying to see the positive side of every obstacle he met. The article is literally dotted with absolute value symbols, a clear reminder of how this concept impacted his life immensely.
I felt that this article really changed my view on things that could be learned in school. The fact that Jordyn used a concept that changed his life is a brave, bold step in a new path never opened before. I feel as if this path should be apparent to all student s in every school - it would make school that much more interesting, and more importantly, life-changing.
