Whenever I’m feeling even the slightest bit famished, I tend to avoid anything with a mention of food. But perhaps “Ode to a Turkey” is an exception. One cannot resist reading an old-fashioned poem describing a scrumptious meal. Sophistication, creativity, and hilarity run through this poem like the sweet broth blanketing the coat of an actual turkey.

The poem successfully mimics outdated English. The use of old words, such as “thou” and “doth,” is unique. However, the contrasting mixture of this jargon and the nonsensical topic in which the poem is based upon make it a comedic masterpiece. To top it off, the detailed descriptions certainly stir a delicious image in mind.

“Ode to a Turkey” is a lovely poem that worships the beauty of such a delightful (and delectable) bird. Thank you, Alexandra, for sharing your brilliance in 14 lines. No thank you, though, for making me crave this Thanksgiving course at the worst time possible.
