Dear Shakespeare

Dear Shakespeare,

How do I even begin to write a letter to the man who some believe to be the best British writer of all time? I will try my best, but please do not judge as I am only a high school student. Oh wait, you were only 25 when your wrote Henry VI! I cannot take this pressure!

Anyways, I would like to inform you that you are still as famous as you were in the 1600s. Everybody knows your name and your various popular works, especially us high school students. I myself have read Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth in the last two years for English class assignments. And I must say bravo for making me spend hours reading one sentence over and over again to understand it. Certain publication companies such as Dover Thrift have even profited off translations that offer simpler words. In addition, what tragedy it was to foresee the predictable conclusion where they both kill themselves! I was quite shocked! In words familiar to you, “the eyes are the window” to recognizing how a title will end.

Of course you do not need my suggestions or my opinion! After all, it has been 400 years and you are still strengthening my abilities to write a sonnet and search for an allusion in a play. What would I do without you? Your existence in my everyday life has taught me that I will not be majoring English in college. Thank you for helping me come to that realization! Because of you, I have learned numerous lessons such as killing my siblings like in Hamlet and conflicts surrounding marriage like in A Midnight Summer’s Dream. How would I survive without being aware of these topics? I must say you have truly had an impact on me. Thank you.

With slight admiration,
