Drake Biography
Drizzy Drake is back in town. Aubrey Drake Graham better known as Drake is a Canadian actor, rapper, and singer. He was born on October 24, 1986 and was raised in Toronto, Canada by his mother. Drake started writing songs at the early age of ten years old. However, his career started in the showbiz industry ad a small screen actor. He got his first role as a junior in high school named Jimmy Brooks on a TV series called “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” As years went on Drake scored other roles on TV series, but that was just the beginning of his journey. Aubrey Drake Graham became a role model to kids all around the world by chasing his dreams and never stopping. He showed anything is possible and the journey never stops.
From Degrassi, Drake couldn’t resist taking a shot at the music industry. In February 2006 he released his first mix tape called “Room for Improvement,” which laid the path for other upcoming music from this talented artist. In 2007 he released “Comeback Season” to much acclaim and praise (About). From here Drake started gaining much popularity and started recording with other artists such as Lil Wayne. 2009 was when Drake really hit his peek. So Far so Gone was released, this included his mentor Lil Wayne and members of Young Money (About). The buzz lead to his hit “Best I Ever Had” reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart on July 4th of 2009. Drake could be only the second artist to have a #1 single without having a recording contract. You know he wouldn’t stop there and this proving that anything can happen if you have the fire and you put your mind to it.
Drake’s fire made him become a rising star. He received several record deal offers from major labels. There were at least three giant companies including Universal, Motown, and Atlantic Records which were involved in “one of the biggest bidding wars ever”, to get Drake signed to their company. One label had reportedly offered $2 million dollars to persuade the young artist to join them (About). In July of 2009, it had been affirmed that Drake had signed a record deal with Young Money Entertainment. Late July Drake was performing on an already injured knee; fell during his performance of “Best I Ever Had” (Aubrey). Graham underwent surgery on September 8th for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Many thought that this would be a huge setback for the rapper, but what they didn’t know was that this would be the biggest come back in the rap industry yet.
Drake went through rehabilitation and was able to walk again, which put this artist back on his “A” game. September 15th, Drakes hit “So Far So Gone” was released as a seven track EP, which five of the tracks were from the original mix tape. It debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Since then the album was certified gold by the RIAA with over 500,000 copies sold in the United States. On April 18, 2010, the album won rap recording of the year at the 2010 Juno awards (Drizzy). Graham planned to release his official debut album “Thank Me Later” in late 2009, but the album’s release date was postponed. The album finally released on June 15, 2010 after being long awaited with many hit singles. In its first week it sold 447,000 records and reached number one on the Billboard 200 (Drizzy). In the end nothing could keep this all star down, he came back fighting harder than ever.
His passion for music started just by taking a risk and following his dreams. At ten he started writing songs, and he would actually swap lyrics over the phone with his dads jail mate. This is how his interest in rapping had actually begun. Never giving up, he let that fire grow, and that is what led him to be the success he is today. Fighting for what you want is the lesson that many can learn from this rapper. Drake truly makes people believe that anything can happen.
