Scoring in basketball
“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties”, challenged Helen Keller (Keller). When Helen Keller was two years old she caught meningitis and became blind and deaf after the illness. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame my obstacle of not being able to score in basketball.
Helen Keller had to overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate. When Helen was a baby, she fell sick and became deaf and blind. The Kellers hired Annie Sullivan to teach Helen how to communicate. Annie was able to teach Helen trust, obedience, and language to overcome her obstacle.
Like Helen Keller, I also had to overcome an obstacle. The obstacle I was facing was not being able to score in basketball because I am short and can not jump high. I overcame it by shooting outside and being quick with the ball.
Although our obstacles were different, we share a few similarities. One is we both had determination. Another similarity is we did not know we could become good at these solutions by practice. Our obstacles were the same because we both had to overcome a struggle to be appreciated by a couch or are family.
Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame my obstacle of not being able to score in basketball. What I learned from Helen's story was that to be good at something you need a lot more practice than you think. What I learned from my experience was that its pretty hard to not get blocked by a six-foot two defender While shooting a lay-up when your only four-foot eleven. Helen Keller challenged that “While they were saying among themselves it cannot be done, it was done”(Keller).
