Does Your Computer Function The Way It Should?
You know those weird messages that randomly pop up on your screen… Yup, that’s me! The task of being a computer programmer is to make computer's function the way they do. Those ‘weird messages’ are the code language (“Computer Programmers”). Although this may seem like a cool job and an amazing salary, it takes lots of education, skills, and risks you have to be willing to take to get this job.
What They Do For Living
The job of a computer programmer is to “Create, modify, and test the code, forms, and script that allow computer applications to run. Work from specifications drawn up by software developers or other individuals. May assist software developers by analyzing user needs and designing software solutions. May develop and write computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information (“Computer Programmers”).” This may seem like a boring way to spend your life, but there are many upsides to this job.
What Makes This Job Great?
There are many upsides to this job that may be unbeatable. One of the upsides it that you can learn how to code. This means that you can basically program a computer all by yourself. Another upside it that you can work directly from your house (Blog). This means if you have any work to do, you don't even have to go to work to get the work done. The last one and also the best one is the salary. Most Computer Programmers earn anywhere from $44,140-127,640 yearly (“Computer Programmers”). These are just the main upsides, although there are many more. Next, let’s talk about the downsides.
Am I At Risk?
Although there are amazing upsides to this job, you have to be willing to take some risks as well. Some risks include, Musculoskeletal Pain, Eye Strain, and Computer Vision Syndrome. This job puts you at risk for these illnesses because of the constant work on technology that can hurt your eyes (“Disadvantages of Being a Programmer”). Other illnesses which are common among all jobs include headaches and tiredness because of long shifts.
Time to Learn!
Now, you may feel like this is your job that you want, but like a lot of other jobs it is not easy to become a computer programmer. To be a Computer Programmer you have to have a “Certificate or associate's degree with considerable work experience; bachelor's degree most often required; master's degree for some jobs(“Computer Programmer Education Requirements and Career Information”).” Some colleges that offer these degrees are Princeton University, Blackhawk Technical College, and Winter Park Tech (“Top Schools for Computer Programming”). Along with these degrees, you have to have some skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, debugging, technical, and writing (“5 Skills All Computer Programmers Must Master | Software Specialists”).
Where Will I End Up?
Computer Programmers can work at places like Sony, Mobi Wireless, and Mac. Most jobs will most likely not hire you if you do not have the education requirement although it is possible. It take a lot of amazing skill to master this job. Are you up for the challenge?

Overall, a computer programmer can help your life and many other lives in many ways. As a computer programmer, you will have to be willing to learn new complicated things, take some risks, and enjoy the amazing upsides of the job. Do you want to be a computer programmer?
