My name is Lucas. It’s a semi-average name. It’s not particularly common, but not rare. I feel my middle name, Constantine, is more interesting. 

My first name didn’t originate from anything from what I’ve been told. It was given to me when I was born. Not giving something to try to live up to. The name itself doesn’t mean much to me because of this, it left me feeling empty. It’s a simple name but strange at the same time. Why not shorten it to a much simpler name? Then it loses the little spark it has. Me going by Lucas instead of Luke helps separate me from other people, it makes me more unique.

My middle name originates from my mom's favorite movie, Constantine. I’ve never seen it, but it makes me wonder if I’ve had some type of expectation placed on me since I was born. Have I been placed on some special pedestal that I don’t understand?

I didn’t like my name for a long time, or my middle name. I felt they didn’t suit me, that it represented me wrong. Now? I still feel kinda off about my first name. I feel there maybe could have been better options when it came to my name. A name that starts with a J or C perhaps? But I’ve learned to accept it by now.

I feel even though my middle name may suit me better, though it would end up being a bother for people to say. People would pronounce it wrong, and get annoyed when they say it due to its length. It’s long and drawn out even though it could potentially be shortened. The only reason I like the name now is because I have friends who said they liked the name. Though what I think of it is it’s own matter. The name Lucas is short and simple with multiple origins, While Constantine is long and unique with origins from Greece, it’s also a common name there. No matter what though, I feel they both fit me. I feel the name Lucas fits me enough to be confident with it going forward, with enough uniqueness to make it interesting. While the name Constantine is an extremely uncommon name in the US, that doesn’t make it bad or anything of the sort. I feel it adds more to me as a person, having a name that you may never hear anywhere else.
