my personal experience
The first day of school i walked on the bus feeling excited to see my friends who i haven't seen all summer i was curious to finding out who would be my teacher and who would be in my classes. By second period class i was sent to the lecture hall as the destination for the students who didn't get a chance to get the physical. they asked me to mark down an appointment date for it. and sent me back to class. Three days later i finally memorized where my classes where and i being in the ninth grade i witnessed a fight, and was late to homeroom. and i missed the announcements. the teacher wrote me a pass to the lecture hall as i walked down i see the security guards walking towards me, feeling nervous due to my past incounters with school security in the previous years in middle school.
as i finally arrive, i notified them that the appointment as maked down for the weekend. they say they will send me home and i would stay home for two more days and comeback with the papers the following week. I called my mom telling her i would be on my way home soon, as she assumes i got into trouble with someone. I calmly explain the situation. I end up taking the wrong bus and end up getting off at a stop near stop & shop.from there i walk a few miles until i get home fifty-five minutes later i get home and go to sleep for the day.
Two days later i feel accomplished that i Wouldn't have to worry about any work i owe because the teachers say they will start the following week. I got up early in the morning and went to the children's health care center in downtown, to see my doctor. As everything seemed to be ok.the doctors checked my throat to check for irregularities. He asks if i felt more tired than usual and if my eating habits changed in the past year.
As i get up to be weighted and have my height checked i was surprised that i dropped 20 lbs in one year. he writes down his diagnoses and has me mark down an appointment at the hartford hospital. due to the doctors observing that my neck was slightly swollen. they told me that it was hashimoto's thyroiditis. Me not knowing anything about it at the time i asked “what am i dealing with exactly.” they told me that the hormones reproduced by the neck isn't functioning well and they would have to do a blood analysis.
as i went home in the car my mom says “ it's only us too in the family that suffers.” explaining to me that it's only us too that have health issues in the family me being confused in the long term affects i go home and search the internet and read ‘this condition is is caused when the thyroid gland does not reproduce the hormones needed for the body..’’ And is a type of thyroid cancer, but nothing to over react about. they proscribed the levothyroxine 88 mg. to my attention. It is a replacement hormone that i would have to use for a very long time.the doctors tell me i would have to return once a year to do a blood analysis for the right dosage to take. months after i was feeling a little worse and decide to do more research about the symptoms i have and i found that the condition itself isn't to blame.
so i check my allergy medication and that didn't seem to be it either. finally i check the levothyroxine medication and to count off the side effects that i felt was around twenty to thirty symptoms i felt. such as: irregular heartbeat, Weight loss, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Nervousness, irritability, insomnia, Chest pain, and Rapid or irregular heartbeat or pulse. And much more. The side effects seemed to cause more harm to the body than the thyroid defect itself.
So to prevent myself from having those symptoms every once in awhile i will purposely slip up and skip a day of medication. This helps me stay away from overdose. And the possibility of a heart attack. with my allergies and medication it would be a little difficult take both and expect to be ok. so i would take one a day of both and slip up on both of them so i can maintain healthy and away from endangering myself.
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis does not have any cure, but there are some alternatives such as to take the prescribed medication from your doctors, or in the process of growing a tumor you have surgery. but always use caution, self analyses and consultation with your doctors you may try to deal with it in any way you feel is safer. Levothyroxine is to treat underactive thyroid glands and is a complete replacement hormone that the thyroid gland reproduces. In any case that that the gland grows a tumor and surgery is necessary the levothyroxine will give the hormone the body needs to stay functional. but, four years later of doing that i feel great i have no sign of a tumor or any sign of cancer.
