Metal in the ears.
''MASTER! MASTER!' Heading my way to the bus stop, headphones in my ears, music blaring loud, this is what I hear. Screaming voices screeching through my ears, loud and powerful. We call it, Heavy metal. Perhaps you're taken aback, you probably think of big guys screaming with no emotion, no common sense. Perhaps you get timid when you think of the word metal. Or maybe your like me, where the speed and sound pulls your soul in. Roaring screaming voices, powerful screaming guitar solos, fast pace drum rhythms, going stronger and louder as the time furthers by. That energy from throughout the day, is started and produced by those simple, yet powerful 5 minutes, as the beautiful sun rises.
Many people are timid by it, some don’t even give it a try, others simply just don’t like hearing the screaming. So why are so many humans timid and ambivalent to it? After so many years, considered by the public as the music of troubled humans, it has gotten a misconception, a false first glance judgment. Many consider it as rebellious music, it's been stereotyped for many year, yet people like us enjoy every second of it. As we gradually moved through time, metal for the most part, has been perceived as this evil person, by the unknown minds.Perhaps the reason many dislike this genre is simply the music itself. The emotion and harshness that kicks in. It transforms people and in return, we get doubtful close minded humans.
We should be open to anything and everything. We shouldn't live life in a nutshell, but rather live life with possibilities. Many may look at this genre as a big angry monster, that contains graphic lyrics, or disturbing story lines. But, it is the total opposite. Bands like Metallica, slayer, or Black Sabbath (to name a few) actually have positive messages for the audience. Not every metal song is about killing and violence, like its thought to be in today's society.
So, What do I see in metal, you may ask? To start it off, it has tremendously helped guide me along through my anxiety episodes. How can yowling voices help a young person like me? Or yet guide someone like me? Well the answer is simple, it's simply because I enjoy it. Just like a boxer enjoys throwing punches, or an astronomer enjoys looking at planets, a metal head will enjoy listening to metal, and yet wouldn’t mind losing their own eardrums along the way.
In conclusion, metal can be a very doubtful and timid word choice for many people. Many question why others listen to it, while others bang their heads to the beat of the rapid music. Next time you go to the music store, and catch a classic metal album, pick It up. Maybe it will guide you along, help you, and introduce you to a whole new different dimension, just like it did with me.
