Olivia Pope
I don’t really see black women on tv, the stories of Olivia Pope and Anneliese Keating aren’t at the forefront of my mind.They are always overly complex anti-heroes in high pressure situations at 10 pm on ABC.(I try to be in bed by 9:30).
Yet the shows geared towards me,all utilize the black best friend, (maybe to reach a larger demographic.) I’m not Donna or Gus, I’m not Turk and my experience has never been the sidekick to the daily adventures of a quirky white male.
You won’t see a teenage african american female anymore.(they canceled all of those shows in the 80’s and 90’s).
I am not a hot mess in a power suit or the sassy best friend in a 7 season sitcom. I’m just the result of a neglected demographic.
