First Day of School
4:45 AM my phone alarm roars;
I am weary and startled.
5:30 AM and I grab my keys to head out the door;
I am feeling the haziness of sleep drift away with each step.
5:45 AM I arrive at the football field to watch the sunrise with my fellow seniors;
I am cool, calm, and collected.
6:15 AM hits and I’m headed to Birch & Banyon with my friends for some fuel;
I am starving and my stomach is howling.
6:45 AM rolls around and we are headed back to school;
I am slowly growing anxious of the day ahead.
7:10 AM and we are headed into school to find our first classes of the day;
I am seeing old friends and teachers and remembering my way around.
7:25 AM everyone scurries off to their first class of the school year;
I am already counting down the days until June 3.
