What the United States Flag Stands For
As I stare at the stars and stripes, I see the men and women who did everything for this country we call our home. The pole of the memento plastered to the wall with a piece of metal and two screws. As I come back to reality, I see all the ungrateful stares and annoyed moans repeating, “..with liberty and justice for all.”
I hear the pledge that people say so carelessly, like another chore. The monotone voices barely even caring what these words mean. I look around, hand on heart, slowly lowering it, the weight of the disgust settling me in my seat thinking, is this all that it means to them. My brain couldn’t comprehend, it didn't want to see why people were so ungrateful.
Do they really know what this place used to be like?... I repeat to myself. They are able to be free because of the men and women who put their lives on the line for someone to carelessly ignore it. They didn’t even know who we were, but they did it anyway.
We should be more mindful and pay gratitude to this land we call home.
