The Gift of Happiness
The Gift of Happiness
I remember one moment from early in freshman year. A girl had complimented my shoes. I don't know why but this was the first compliment that really stuck with me. Something about the sincerity and the confidence she showed when she said this really made a difference in my day. I started noticing things about other people, some I didn't even know, that I thought were cool. I began regularly giving people compliments, and I noticed one thing that every person does in return. They smile.
People gain confidence in themselves when other people show confidence in them. Saying something as simple as, “I like your hair today,” can impact a person in their: confidence, motivation, and happiness. Sometimes when I compliment somebody they respond with a compliment towards me, which only shows how something as small as a compliment can make a difference not only in their life, but in yours as well.
When you make other people smile and even laugh you can feel better about yourself knowing that you made another person smile. Even though other people might not remember everything compliment you give, in the moment it creates happiness. Giving somebody the gift of happiness even for a moment in time is still creating the difference that inspires us everyday.
