we the willing, lead by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. we have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

She winds up her windmill. I stand in front of the catcher, in perfect form. I wait, to hit the softball. She lets go, It's a little low, so i jump off the ground, to prevent being hit. Too bad. Right on the side of then kneecap.

"You wanna walk, Syd?" Coach Berube asked me.

"No, I'll be fine. I wanna hit." I say, hardly.

"Ok, then." He mumbles.

I get a base hit, and by the time I'm at 1st, it throbs. The base coach, Coach S., asks me again.

"Now, you're sure you are fine?" she asked me.

"Yes, I am. It doesn't hurt." I lie.

When i get to my dugout, my friend Savannah, the rookie, asks me again.

"Well, okay, but why didn't she say sorry?"

"It's softball. You suck it up, and you never say sorry."
