Dear Kidz Bop,
If you have to worry about editing a song to keep it "kid-friendly", then the song itself is clearly not "kid-friendly" and should not be sung by your children that probably shouldn't be singing anything anyway. You edit songs such as Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to the point where the meaning is entirely missing. Because "a different LOVER is not a sin", "don't be a drag, just be a queen", "whether you’re broke or evergreen, you’re black, white, beige, Chola descent, you’re Lebanese, you’re orient", and "no matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgendered life, I’m on the right track, baby, I was born to survive, No matter black, white, or beige, Chola or orient made, I’m on the right track, baby, I was born to be brave" are certainly lyrics that our impressionable youth should not be hearing. Not only is sex (or relationships, for that matter, "lover" doesn't specify solely "sex") wrong, but so is gender expression, sexuality, and even race. We can't let our children know about diversity. Anyway, if my sarcasm wasn't apparent enough, my beloved Kidz Bop, you have either A.) exposed your homophobic and racist ways or B.) started an outrage because of said homophobic and racist ways. Or maybe you did both.
My main question, however, is: Is it really so harmful for children to sing about diversity whether it’s sexual orientation, gender expression, or race? It doesn't hurt anybody save for those bent on ruining things for everyone, but they'll get over it. Are they going to start censoring our media too? Oh...wait...
Sincerely,
Why is Kidz Bop even still around?
