Instagram.‌ ‌Snapchat.‌ ‌These‌ ‌are‌ ‌the‌ ‌names‌ ‌of‌ ‌two‌ ‌widely‌ ‌used‌ ‌apps‌ ‌around‌ ‌the‌ ‌world.‌ ‌They‌ ‌are‌ ‌both‌ ‌incredibly‌ ‌similar‌ ‌and‌ ‌different‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌time.‌ ‌Both‌ ‌apps‌ ‌come‌ ‌at‌ ‌ends‌ ‌when‌ ‌it‌ ‌comes‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌question‌ ‌of‌ ‌which‌ ‌one‌ ‌is‌ ‌better?‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌is‌ ‌clearly‌ ‌better‌ ‌because‌ ‌of‌ ‌how‌ ‌it‌ ‌is‌ ‌safer‌ ‌and‌ ‌allows‌ ‌users‌ ‌to‌ ‌post‌ ‌images.‌ ‌

Instagram‌ ‌is‌ ‌safer‌ ‌for‌ ‌females‌ ‌than‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌because‌ ‌it‌ ‌does‌ ‌not‌ ‌allow‌ ‌for‌ ‌friends‌ ‌to‌ ‌view‌ ‌your‌ ‌locations.‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌introduced‌ ‌Snap‌ ‌Maps‌ ‌and‌ ‌it‌ ‌uses‌ ‌geo‌ ‌data‌ ‌technology‌ ‌to‌ ‌allow‌ ‌users‌ ‌to‌ ‌view‌ ‌their‌ ‌friends’‌ ‌locations.‌ ‌

This‌ ‌feature‌ ‌is‌ ‌widely‌ ‌popular‌ ‌as‌ ‌19‌ ‌million‌ ‌people‌ ‌check‌ ‌Snap‌ ‌Maps‌ ‌daily‌ ‌(‌Staggering‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌Statistics‌ ‌to‌ ‌know‌ ‌in‌ ‌2020)‌.‌ ‌The‌ ‌usage‌ ‌of‌ ‌Snap‌ ‌Maps‌ ‌is‌ ‌dangerous‌ ‌for‌ ‌anyone,‌ ‌especially‌ ‌females.‌ ‌The‌ ‌article‌ ‌further‌ ‌illustrates‌ ‌this‌ ‌by‌ ‌sharing‌ ‌a‌ ‌2016‌ ‌study‌ ‌that‌ ‌showed‌ ‌how‌ ‌76‌ ‌percent‌ ‌of‌ ‌women‌ ‌under‌ ‌30‌ ‌had‌ ‌been‌ ‌subject‌ ‌to‌ ‌online‌ ‌harassment‌ ‌and‌ ‌70‌ ‌percent‌ ‌of‌ ‌all‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌users‌ ‌are‌ ‌female.‌ ‌Additionally,‌ ‌a‌ ‌Safety‌ ‌Net‌ ‌survey‌ ‌also‌ ‌found‌ ‌that‌ ‌97‌ ‌percent‌ ‌of‌ ‌abused‌ ‌women‌ ‌in‌ ‌survivor‌ ‌programs‌ ‌reported‌ ‌their‌ ‌abuse‌ ‌had‌ ‌been‌ ‌partially‌ ‌based‌ ‌in‌ ‌geo‌ ‌data‌ ‌technology‌ ‌(Lee).‌ ‌This‌ ‌signifies‌ ‌that‌ ‌Snapchat’s‌ ‌use‌ ‌of‌ ‌geo‌ ‌data‌ ‌technology‌ ‌makes‌ ‌it‌ ‌more‌ ‌dangerous‌ ‌than‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌making‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌superior.‌ ‌Additionally,‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌post‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌on‌ ‌Instagram.‌ ‌You‌ ‌can‌ ‌not‌ ‌do‌ ‌this‌ ‌with‌ ‌Snapchat.‌ ‌The‌ ‌ability‌ ‌to‌ ‌post‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌is‌ ‌beneficial‌ ‌because‌ ‌it‌ ‌allows‌ ‌you‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌updated‌ ‌on‌ ‌others’‌ ‌lives‌ ‌and‌ ‌news.‌ ‌For‌ ‌example,‌ ‌our‌ ‌school‌ ‌posts‌ ‌reminders‌ ‌on‌ ‌buying‌ ‌yearbooks.‌ ‌Without‌ ‌this‌ ‌reminder,‌ ‌I‌ ‌would‌ ‌have‌ ‌forgotten‌ ‌to‌ ‌purchase‌ ‌one.‌ ‌The‌ ‌aspect‌ ‌of‌ ‌being‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌post‌ ‌a‌ ‌picture‌ ‌or‌ ‌video‌ ‌creates‌ ‌a‌ ‌virtual‌ ‌scrapbook‌ ‌as‌ ‌well.‌ ‌This‌ ‌is‌ ‌amazing‌ ‌because‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌look‌ ‌back‌ ‌at‌ ‌your‌ ‌current‌ ‌and‌ ‌archived‌ ‌posts‌ ‌at‌ ‌any‌ ‌time.‌ ‌However,‌ ‌some‌ ‌may‌ ‌argue‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌is‌ ‌more‌ ‌dangerous‌ ‌for‌ ‌children‌ ‌because‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌disappearing‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌option.‌ ‌This‌ ‌means‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌after‌ ‌a‌ ‌set‌ ‌range‌ ‌from‌ ‌1-10‌ ‌seconds‌ ‌disappear.‌ ‌This‌ ‌opens‌ ‌the‌ ‌gates‌ ‌for‌ ‌unauthorized‌ ‌sexual‌ ‌content‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌sent‌ ‌making‌ ‌it‌ ‌not‌ ‌appropriate‌ ‌for‌ ‌teens.‌ ‌This‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌major‌ ‌concern‌ ‌amongst‌ ‌parents.‌ ‌Although‌ ‌this‌ ‌option‌ ‌does‌ ‌increase‌ ‌the‌ ‌risk‌ ‌for‌ ‌naughty‌ ‌activity,‌ ‌I‌ ‌argue‌ ‌that‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌has‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌feature.‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌recently‌ ‌came‌ ‌out‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌feature‌ ‌just‌ ‌like‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌where‌ ‌any‌ ‌pictures‌ ‌sent‌ ‌disappear‌ ‌after‌ ‌set‌ ‌time.‌ ‌Hence,‌ ‌I‌ ‌
 argue‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌is‌ ‌equally‌ ‌dangerous‌ ‌in‌ ‌this‌ ‌aspect‌ ‌because‌ ‌both‌ ‌apps‌ ‌come‌ ‌with‌ ‌this‌ ‌risk,‌ ‌but‌ ‌if‌ ‌used‌ ‌responsibly‌ ‌teens‌ ‌will‌ ‌not‌ ‌be‌ ‌affected.‌ ‌Furthermore,‌ ‌I‌ ‌realize‌ ‌that‌ ‌other‌ ‌people‌ ‌believe‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌is‌ ‌better‌ ‌than‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌because‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌larger‌ ‌array‌ ‌of‌ ‌filters‌ ‌available.‌ ‌However,‌ ‌one‌ ‌flaw‌ ‌in‌ ‌this‌ ‌argument‌ ‌is‌ ‌that‌ ‌even‌ ‌though‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌has‌ ‌more‌ ‌filters,‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌has‌ ‌filters‌ ‌and‌ ‌lenses.‌ ‌Lenses‌ ‌are‌ ‌filters‌ ‌which‌ ‌allow‌ ‌you‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌
games‌ ‌such‌ ‌as‌ ‌virtual‌ ‌soccer.‌ ‌This‌ ‌makes‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌more‌ ‌entertaining‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌user‌ ‌than‌ ‌Instagram.‌ ‌Even‌ ‌though‌ ‌the‌ ‌number‌ ‌of‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌filters‌ ‌is‌ ‌less‌ ‌than‌ ‌Snapchat’s,‌ ‌the‌ ‌filter‌ ‌quality‌ ‌is‌ ‌better.‌ ‌To‌ ‌sum‌ ‌up,‌ ‌Instagram‌ ‌is‌ ‌by‌ ‌far‌ ‌superior‌ ‌to‌ ‌Snapchat‌ ‌because‌ ‌of‌ ‌its‌ ‌safety‌ ‌and‌ ‌its‌ ‌ability‌ ‌to‌ ‌post‌ ‌pictures.‌ ‌
