A Picture of Heart Break

A freefalling leaf in the wind
Photographed in black and white
So lonely and desolate
Frozen on its journey
Caught in a moment of dejection
The fall from branch to ground
Is the descent from life to death
Born upon the limb
Unfurling in the sunlight
Bright, green, alive
But autumn must follow summer
As life does death
The limb will release the leaf
As the parent the infant
The wind may catch it
Carrying it beyond all it knows
But the unknown destination
Is finally reached
And the final sleep is all that’s left
Yet modern invention
Can capture life
At it’s bleakest moment
And preserve it
A black and white picture
Of a leaf falling in the wind
Is a picture of a heart breaking
