The walls dance,

Illuminated by torchlight

Together we must move quickly

Our feet move hastily

Like ants we must assemble

Beneath the soil of the gardens

The dirt is a dark drain

Enveloping any hope

This place leaves no space for light

A hand of terror grips our throats

We must be quick enough.

If not, they will find us

They cannot find us.

We have only just escaped

A crumbling rumble sounds above our heads.

We must move quickly.

~

Fear was always here

In the place

Fear lies in the largest lake.

The lake there was filled with tears

Tears from our fears

The lake lived to drown us and our crowns.

They left no room for love

Forced us to live in pain

They never let us leave.

Sadness surrounded our souls

Keeping us away from all alleviation

A sickening shield separated us from joy

They hid us behind our own walls

We built to hide ourselves behind

~

They are much too near

We have not been quick enough

A tearing rip at his neck;

The journey, for him, is over

He sees the others

They have to go on.

Their bodies fade, the sun under the horizon

The fire of hope that had bloomed within him

Was stomped out

~

His Sunday shirts were folded

Pristine and perfect

No escape

His room was spotless

They would approve

Nothing left

No rebel fire left in him

He is on their string

Escape

Flames of his soul flicker to life

Time has renewed

Hope

A fleeting wish to flee

How fleeting?

Desperate

The fire is raging, propelling him on

He escapes

Escape

Hope

Freedom.
