You appear so innocent
An eternally cheerful person
Popular and happy
But underneath your thin disguise
You’re a killer
You’re the knife pressed against my throat
Cutting my breath short
Inch by agonizing inch
You’re the manacles that bind me to hopeless love
To a beautiful fantasy that shatters when touched
You’re a poison
Oozing through my veins
Masking my judgment, controlling my feelings
Until I’m your puppet
Who knew one person could die so many times?
For every time I look at you, I perish
On the cold blades behind your eyes
To you I’m an ugly obstacle
Something too useless and pesky
To even waste breath upon
In truth, it is a shock
That I don’t have a metaphorical sword
Jutting from my chest
From where you’ve stabbed
My poor heart
So many times
You’ve executed me
And you don’t even realize it
The guilt doesn’t worm into your heart
The anguish doesn’t leave you lying awake, sleepless, at night
My broken heart will never mend
Properly, anyway
No amount of condolences or sympathy
Will fill the hole
You left when you said
Goodbye
