The rose
Love,
It’s a flower in the Spring,
It starts out as a seed,
Small and delicate,
Exactly like a crush.
Then it starts to sprout,
You start to love.
It grows and grows,
Until you can’t contain it any longer,
And it all gushes out
To him,
A rainstorm watering a flower so it can grow.
It’s now summer,
Happiness and life,
Coursing through your veins.
He showers you with kisses,
Hugs you so tightly,
There’s so much love,
How could any of it go wrong?
Nothing will ever go wrong, right?
It’s now fall,
It’s starting to get cold.
He’s starting to become cold but you can withstand it,
There’s a few arguments here and there,
He’s distant,
You don’t even know why.
Somethings are going wrong,
But it’s ok you think,
It’s all going to be ok, right?
Winter,
Cold and bitter,
Your slowly withering away.
He’s ripping you petals off,
One by one.
First petal:
He starts noticing other girls.
Second petal:
He stops kissing, hugging, TOUCHING you.
Third petal:
He doesn’t spend time with you anymore,
Avoiding you like you’re the plague.
Fourth petal:
He stops saying, “I love you.”
All your petals are coming off,
He doesn’t even seem to care.
Suddenly,
All at once all your petals drop,
Withering away,
Except one,
He’s with another woman in your bed,
The bed you share with him.
Last petal:
He says he loves her more than you.
Winter is still going,
He’s not there to warm you,
Or protect you when your scared,
Or kiss your tears away.
You’re all alone,
Broken in so many ways.
You cry yourself to sleep every night,
Hurt more than that time you dog died
When you were eight.
One day,
You decide he’s not worth it,
You put up your walls,
Higher than a skyscraper.
Your thorns are finally coming out.
Your still broken,
But you won’t show it.
Everything’s going to be ok, right?
It’s warming up again,
Your bud is starting to sprout,
But replacing leaves,
Are the thorns around your heart this time.
Spring passes by,
And your in full bloom,
A beautiful rose.
You happier than you’ve ever been,
With summer rolling around again,
Everything will be better,
Everything’s better alone, right?
Suddenly,
You see him.
Another rose in the sunlight,
He also has thorns,
You can see them.
You want to get to know him,
His name,
Back story,
And all the baggage that comes with it.
But you can’t,
You don’t want to get hurt,
You don’t want to hurt him.
You have too much baggage,
He wouldn’t want to see
the monster that lives in you,
He doesn’t need to know how f****d up you are.
You also have too much to risk,
You didn’t spend all those months
Putting up those walls,
Just for them to be knocked down
By the wrong person again.
You didn’t bottle up your emotions,
For it to be opened up again,
Flooding anyone who got too close.
He’s thinking about going up to her,
But her realizes that she probably doesn’t
Want to be pricked by his thorns.
She has her own things to deal with,
And doesn’t need any of his bulls**t
On top of all of that.
“Just turn around and walk away”, he thinks.
Suddenly,
He turns around,
You decide to take the leap.
You walk up to him,
And say hello.
He turns around,
He stops when he hears,
A strong, independent voice.
He hears her voice and turns to see,
A beautiful girl with a rose life appearance.
They instantly make eye contact,
And know it’s meant to be,
It just feels right.
Winter is approaching,
You’re scared,
Overthinking.
“He’s going to leave”
“He doesn’t love me”
“There’s another woman”,
All thoughts running through your head,
Like a little girl running in a field of roses,
But hesitant because of the thorns that might hurt her.
None of those things are true,
You’re still happy,
You have been since that day.
He’s always been there to warm you
From the cold,
And protect you from your own thoughts,
And make sure you don’t cry.
But when you do cry,
He’s always gonna be there,
With ice cream,
Kisses,
And love.
Love,
That’s what this funny,
Familiar feeling is.
Winter and spring both passed,
All your doubts are gone,
Maybe everything’s actually
going to be alright.
For once everything is alright
