Two-Toned
Half of me is a lavender pink,
Calm and delicate, relaxed and sweet.
Like the rows of flowers grandma planted,
just blooming from spring showers.
Like the tip of your nose after being in the cold too long.
And yet, the other half is a scarlet red,
The color women paint on their lips
to cover their insecurities.
Or the drop of wine spilled on mother’s white dress,
bleeding through the fabric
as well as her mood.
Half of me is a scarlet red,
and yet I wish for all of me to be a
lavender pink.
