This Place We Live In
This place we live in holds the world at bay,
With citadels of hope that keep us warm,
Whose neon signs show us the perfect way,
And tame the frantic crowd of life’s cold storm.
The smiling faces of our parents point
To starting lines that lead to our success.
The crowns upon our heads, they do anoint,
Creating paths that leave no time for rest.
We mold ourselves to think that we are strong.
Our lives are placed on hold without an end.
We push away the fog and stumble on,
Adorned with faults that we have yet to mend.
As life flows on, the time is now to keep,
Ourselves intact, our own beliefs to seek.
