It's time to write,

face reality.
No more fiddling with half-hearted metaphors
and tiptoeing through the minefields of ­controversy
just to not blow my cover.
Time to paint my own walls
with words unread
and thoughts unsaid.
Time to rock the boat,
and maybe fall overboard.
Time to say who I am.
Time to see my world spelled out
in sloppy penmanship
on a translucent, college-ruled backdrop.
I'm done with the silence,
it's time to declare it!
Time to put down the shield and pick up the pen.
Make no mistake,
my words might shock you.
But in the end, I won't be lying
to myself or you.
It's time to write,

Because it all comes down to this:
The words are there,
but will I write them?
