I gaze across the battlefield and lift my head to the bleeding sun. Facing the realization that I could not stop a single bullet nor could I save a single life and then have to do to the other what the other has done to me, look what hatred has done! Do I seek revenge out of spite for my brother, whose body I watched shoot up into the air, like a rocket on the forth of July, then come crashing down in front of me, splashing mud everywhere; seeing the pulsating blood oozing from his face and his flesh torn to shreds as if a beast had had his way with him. Yet millions of feet trample over him, smashing his skull into earth and all I did was stand there. God forgive me, brother forgive me, all I did was stand there.
