At man's darkest moment
how does he stay afloat?
faith is his solace, I think
until I recall that
faith hath deserted me
I turned my back on god
and now I lie alone
gazing at the stars

At man's darkest moment
how does he stay afloat?
companions are his recluse, I think
but then I recall that
my life is absent true companionship
I watch actions alien
with no logical reason
in his fellow humanity

At man's darkest moment
how does he stay afloat?
even he most alone must
have haven in his own soul
then I remember that
from the soul flows forth insanity
it is the core of my ailment
the cure must be a purge of the source?
