Dreaming

On Enchanted Island by Millard Sheets

I open my eyes as I’m awoken by the alarm of nature.

The sound of calm water, trickling past,

doesn’t even consider stopping for anyone or anything.

The smooth velvety wind tickles my face.

The soft dewy grass bows underneath my feet.

As I approach the edge of the jagged island,

a sense of tranquility washes over me.

Turning my head I see it. My pulse quickens.

A fin the size of a house glides through the water.

Who knows what lies beneath it?

I frantically search and wonder,

have others witnessed this giant too?

I find no one.

Finally, I see three seagulls soaring over the glassy blue.

But, if it’s so glassy, then where are their reflections?

Hold on,

where’s mine?
