The Girl, the Jew, and the Bird
I am a bird and
They have plucked my feathers
I lie here in this darkened room
Beneath my blankets of anguished grief
Wrapped around me, a kiss of pain
And makes it colder, harder to breathe
Shadows crowd around me; yet they are not mine
Shadows threaten, as I take my leave
I find you now, and your warm embrace
Melts my soul shot through with ice
Your eyes connect the bridge that spans
The distance between our hearts
I lie here in this darkened room
Beneath my quilts of comfort and hope
I will survive, I’m not alone
I’m certain that everywhere I go
I will find another set of footprints near
In golden-cream sand or fiery snow
I hold your hand, and I fly through walls with you
Like a summer’s dream
Marks your friendship – so adoring, sweet, and true
Flowing on forever, like a river of golden rays
For under your love and care
I will surely grow
Another set of wings
