I Hear America Weeping
I hear America weeping……its wails I hear loud and clear;
Those of the polarized populus, divided by dissent and fear.
The ones who tread with caution weep, wary of every thought, action, and word;
For something or other offends someone now, so they stay silent and follow the herd.
The ones who are known as the marginal weep, and fight battles of gender and race;
But sometimes they play the victim card, when patriarchy and feminism take place.
The ones who exercise their liberties weep, but still vote with intentions pure;
Unsuspecting pawns in a corrupt political machine, whose greed knows no cure.
The ones who suit up on Wall Street weep, when like stones their dollars sink;
Once mighty number-crunching giants cringe woefully on disaster’s brink.
The ones who contemplate the jab also weep, fact checkers breathing down their backs;
Damned if they do and damned if they don’t, with this life sentence called the vax.
The ones who entertain the masses weep, they’re creative wells long run dry;
Reboots, remakes, and Kardashians killed culture, and artists no longer try.
The ones who endlessly scroll weep too, the lure of social media now dim;
Toxicity, hate, and lies seep through screens, and make reality look grim.
And although, I do with my nation weep, salty tears of red, white, and blue;
I burst into song and carry along, hoping my neighbors will too.
(Maybe together we can one day help America sing again.)
