A Kiss
A smile, a touch
 Halted exhilaration
 So shy, so pure
 Clueless at what to do
 So new, so exciting
 Eyes meet, innocence
 Lips touch, brief at best
 A child’s first kiss
 A silent moment
 Pure bliss

 Year later marriage comes
Trust and faith guide her through
 Love and understanding
 Keeps them together
 A ritual, somewhat
 Done every day
 The spark still there
 But only barely
 The hope of forever
 Making it worthwhile

 Skin sags, veins so visible
Ninety years of wisdom shines through
 Alone, for ten years now
The nursing home her only future
A nice young man, a volunteer
 So friendly and kinds
Says he likes her the best
A kiss on her cheek before he leaves
So sweet, so nice, she loves every second
Enough to make her live just a little longer
