My Life Was the Ocean
My life was the Ocean.
You were my best friend.
The one I clung to
In times of need.
The one who cared.
Or seemed to.
When the waves lapped,
When the undertow pulled,
When the sharks threatened,
When I started to lose hope,
You were to coral reef I grabbed.
But you cut my hands.
I was pulled away,
Unwilling.
Recently bereaved
And in a time of need
You weren’t there.
Like I expected.
Was it the distance I was pulled?
Was it my dependence that made you disappear?
Did you just forget
That you were the one
I needed?
Was I so easy to replace?
