a battle no one can win brews on both sides
each desiring the saltytaste of victory
rigid soldiers line the fields
complete with worn-outclothing
and ancient, tired armor.
white flags will not wave
thewarriors wield no weapons
they fight by expanding their troops.
neitherside accepts death -
as one is killed,
another will rise up.
the warcry rings
unknown warriors charge,
aiming for the heart andbrain
fearless defenders guard the target
a giant growl violently eruptsfrom the earth
and in the silent hospital
fighting hisdisease
my grandfather lies still
