Smithereens
Of the man
He once was.
I hold a sliver
Of the hope
I once had.
She remembers a little
Of the faith
She once knew.
Society hangs onto
The piece of peace
That's all they've got left.
Oh, we're all slipping,
Slipping away.
Just particles of the people
We were back in the day.
No longer whole
We crumble in the face of others.
As if we are ancient
We disintegrate slowly
Into dust.
