Poppy
we drove through the night
and made it into San Francisco
just as the sun began to unroll
its bed-sheet onto the damp city
we let the cold air fill our dry lungs
and our feet finally touched the ground
we had been floating;
I’d never been so happy in my life
as I was when I saw you fall asleep
soundly on the blanket I got you for your birthday
we can lay that blanket out anywhere
and drift on the morning sun
