Burning
That’s all I feel
Vicious flames lick my veins
A fire coursing through my body
Singeing my limbs
As if I’m tied to a stake

Burning
How long have I been burning?
Hours, days, weeks?
Months?
Years?
Thrashing and writhing
The pain never stops

Burning
It leaves my fingers and toes
Travels through my veins
To my rapid heart

Burning
It thumps painfully
Crashing in my chest
Faster, faster, faster
So fast I can’t bear it
My breath coming in erratic gasps

Burning
Then my heart contracts
Tha-thump, tha-thump
A hollow thud
Then silence
Complete silence

No more burning
Everything is clear
Sharply defined
Beautiful
My eyes are strong
My body is strong
I am immortal
And I will never burn again
