The Door Bell Ramg
I go and open it
Two men in military dress are waiting
They didn’t have to tell me I already knew
My worst nightmare had come true
I drop to the floor screaming and saying no
My mother comes running; they give her the bad news
She falls to the floor by my side
Tears rolling from her eyes
She holds me in her arms
My little brother isn’t home from school yet, how do we tell him
One of the men says that my father was a good friend and a good man
Then the men say they’re sorry and turn from the door
Some people would say it’s just another soldier, but its not
This one, like all the others, has a family and was well loved
I have a hole in my heart that my father should fill
But never will he again
Because my father is gone
And is never coming back ….
