If Only I Were MAG
If only I were an athlete
known for my prowess and skill
then she also could share my prestige -
life at the top of the hill.
If only I were a merchant
and to the rich peddled my wares
so then I could give wealth unto her
and alleviate her worldly cares.
If only I were a hero
endowed with power and grace
then she could revel in paradise found
while lying in my embrace.
If only I were a painter
her countenance my canvas would grace
so all the world would know of her charm
and Lisa would be just another pretty face.
If only I were an airman
I could carry her away from the world
and together on some lost island
we could watch as our fate unfurled.
If only I were a sculptor
I could craft her, her beauty in stone.
And my creation would serve to remind me
that I will never again be alone.
If only I were a songwriter
making music ethereal and wise
then all the world would know an enchantress
her art beheld in her eyes.
If only I were a romantic
I could woo her with my words and my way
and fill her life with a thrilling mystique
so the aura of night rules the day.
But, alas, I am none of these
picayune in stature and fame.
My only gift to her is my love
and the whole of my heart can she claim.
