Where I'm From
I’m from long summer nights, from Cherry Kool-Aid, and fish sticks.
I’m from the cool breeze by the lake, and the smell of spring in the air.
From the smell of roses in my grandma’s garden, and the sand sticking to my feet.
I’m from meatloaf dinners, and staying up to late on Sunday nights.
I’m from hours on the horses back, and days lost at the barn.
And cold winter nights taking the dog out.
I’m from volleyball games, and playing out in the rain.
From the time I slammed my pinky in the car door, and the time I knocked my tooth out.
I’m from staying up all night, and having no cares in the world.
I’m from the time when life was slow, life was easy, life was new.
Now I’m from the time where life is fast, time is lost, and few is new.
