Adrift, Now at Shore
I spent nine months in your womb
Tightly bonded were we
I spent a mere day in the outer world
Before you were lost to me
I pondered and I wondered
Why did you have to leave me?
Outer trappings I did have
But the yearning burned on in me
The infant grew up in inches and mind
Pulled on by life’s biology
A set of parents that adopted me
My real mom just a memory
Did you wonder as I wondered?
At the steps that my life took
I liked all the things you liked
I knew not the reason why
Decades passed, the play went on
A shooting star heard my call
The voice heard inside the womb
Just turned to factuality
The director smiles at the turn of life
Yearnings and fervor felt in the heart
Raging Snowstorms quelled at last
I get to meet you, mother of mine.
