Senses Of Summer
Startling deep pink lemonade sky at sunset,
With onlookers bathed in golden light,
As children dance in sprinklers dripping wet,
Then return to those who bid thy night
Toes dipped in cool blue water beneath a deck,
Upturned grins for summer’s pleasure,
With sun screen covering your face and neck,
To thwart the burn of the weather
Bright green flip-flops and ice cream supreme,
With the tickle of seagull feathers on the beach,
And night glowing bugs who capture a dream,
In which children stand and fight to reach
Sounds of music-making birds at dawn,
With the hinted smell of lilacs outside your door,
And the rustle of leaves from a doe and her fawn,
Or the taste of dripping chocolate from a smore
Whether it be the taste or smells,
Or the emotions we feel all day through,
Summer will come and bring her spell,
And leave you lots of things to do!
