Oh America
How I've grown in you
Bound between walls of hate
Prejudice, and ignorance too

I have come to love
And to feel ashamed
I hope you can feel
Just a little bit of my pain

I want to say
That this happens, to anyone of any race
Regardless of time,
regardless of place

That we may have been born here
Yet we're still looked down upon
How I wonder
What went wrong?

The shadows are dark
And they're not quite gone
We will never see daylight
Until we see dawn

For over a hundred years
We have been discriminated against
That's a long time
Yet we're still looking through the fence

Racism is still going on, centuries strong
With no immediate end, not for long
Oh, how much blood has been shed for you
It makes a good story, or a song or two

We have traveled long, and worked very hard
But it seems like you segregated, this part of our yard

For we are not equal
We are apart
I cannot even tell you
How many times, you have broken my heart

I hope someday, that we will find peace
Until that day, we will overcome defeat

We will not back off
We will not step down
Until equal rights
Have found their way around

One wish I hope for, and will dearly pray
That one day, hate will stay away
