"Breathing Underwater"

"Breathing Underwater"
Breathe underwater
and watch bubbles
disperse themselves
in the dense,
uncertain sea.
Avoid faith
in tangibility
to set myself free
from a dreadful
awakening,
and sleep often
enough to enjoy
recurring dreams.
Monotony
is the enemy--
weak lungs
are powerless
underwater.
Inspiration can't exist
without imagination,
and without inspiration
there is hollowness.
I could float
like a buoy
or capsize tragically.
I inhale,
exhale, watch
the bubbles
drift around me.
