Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance.
-Carl Sandberg

Sitting all alone,
a teacup.
Chipped ivory edge,
empty,
filled with dirt.
Once set atop the highest shelf,
admired by all,
handled with care.
Now only a useless trinket,
shoved in a bottom shelf
to gather dusty memories.

Sitting all alone,
my heart.
Chipped beyond repair,
empty,
filled with lonliness.
Once put before work,
money,
success.
Now a forgotten treasure,
pushed aside with false promises
of a mothers love.

I love the way you compared these two. Yes, hearts will chip and be forgotten just as formerly revered teacups will collect dust on a shelf. Although this was sad, I liked it very much.
