Failure is not for me.

The spirit broke free
Praying to be free for good
But some how was back in a cage where it first stood

Flapping it’s wings
Chirping about
Looking down praying for a way out

The spirit broke free
Praying to be free for good
But some how was back in a cage where it first stood

Looking around it stared down
Hoping it wouldn’t hurt if it hit the ground
Stepping back he took a leap
Flapping it’s wings
Chirping with joy

The spirit had broken free
As he began to fly through the cloud
Out of his nest
And into the world of freedom

I adored this poem! And indeed, it reminded me somewhat of Maya Angelou's work. I loved the story of a spirit's freedom and the joy-inspiring way in which you told it. Thanks for writing this!
