Fools
Life comes to me in short bursts
of smiles and laughter and love
but once I believe I'm through with the worst
it comes back for one final shove
and all I can create these days
are broken thoughts in shades of gray
watching as memories flicker and fade
ghosts of my past swallowing all I had made
Its pulling and pushing, wait for something to give
we give and we take, we don't know how to live
we stumble through days and fool ourselves to think
that we could learn how to swim before we all sink
it like he's laughing, from up in his clouds
joke of a girl, screaming out loud
these people want me, and these people don't
these people I'll have, and these I won't
and it doesn't matter, cause we're one and the same
we think we make a difference, with knowledge and fame
but who cares if you're dumb or pretty or dead
cause I'll bet you cry salt; I'll bet you bleed red.

And that's the thing about the future. It's unknown, unknowable, but before you know it, you're there.
